How Slovomir handles study data and supporting services.

Last updated: June 4, 2026

1. Who We Are

Slovomir is provided by Rodney Johnson.

  • Website: https://slovomir.com
  • Support email: support@slovomir.com

2. Overview

Slovomir is a Russian-learning app for iPhone. It uses structured sessions, notifications, lock-screen surfaces, pronunciation playback, Verb Yourself review, progress milestones, and optional custom item import.

We try to collect as little personal information as practical while operating the app and supporting services.

  • local study storage
  • user-added custom items
  • notification, camera, and photo-library permissions
  • on-device OCR with Apple's Vision framework
  • Lock Screen and Live Activity app-group snapshots
  • hosted audio, PDF, illustration, and support endpoints
  • remote configuration, messaging, and optional telemetry
  • Apple App Store listing and download services

3. Information Stored On Your Device

Slovomir stores study data locally on your device. This may include session setups, saved decks, generated session decks, learning progress, session history, user-added custom items, badge progress, milestone state, app preferences, notification preferences, Lock Screen and Live Activity preferences, and a locally generated random device identifier.

4. Information You May Choose To Add

You may add your own learning items by typing, pasting, or importing text from a photo. Custom items you save are stored locally on your device as part of your study library.

5. Permissions We Request

  • Notifications: used so active study sessions can continue when the app is in the background.
  • Camera: used only if you choose the photo-based item import flow.
  • Photo Library: used only if you choose to import text from an image.

6. Photo Text Extraction

When you import text from a photo, Slovomir uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to recognize text when available. The current OCR flow is designed to run locally on your device.

7. Lock Screen, Live Activities, And Shared App Storage

If you use Slovomir's lock-screen or Live Activity features, the app stores a small study snapshot in an Apple app-group container shared between the main app and extension surfaces.

That snapshot may include study-preview information such as the subject name, card prompt text, optional translation or support text when needed for the surface, and simple progress counts.

8. Network Requests And Third-Party Services

  • Pronunciation audio: the app may fetch pronunciation manifests and audio files from developer-controlled hosted endpoints.
  • Deck-passage audio: the app may fetch deck-passage audio manifests and audio files from developer-controlled hosted endpoints.
  • Deck-passage PDFs: the app may download printable deck-passage PDFs from developer-controlled hosted endpoints.
  • Card illustrations and share-card assets: the app may fetch image assets from developer-controlled hosted endpoints.
  • Reader examples and supplemental curriculum: the app may request support data from https://slovomir.com.
  • Remote configuration and messaging: the app may talk to a developer-operated control plane hosted at https://slovomir.com.
  • App Store services: the app listing and downloads are handled by Apple.

9. Remote Configuration And Optional Usage Events

The control plane may deliver feature flags, content visibility, behavior defaults, notification copy, and announcement cards.

When telemetry is enabled in the active app configuration, the app may send a small set of product-usage events such as app open, app backgrounded, session start, and session end, along with limited event context.

We use this information to operate the app and improve the product. We do not use it for third-party advertising.

10. App Store Listing

Slovomir's iPhone app is distributed through Apple's App Store when the public listing is live.

11. What We Do Not Currently Offer

  • a required account sign-in system
  • in-app advertising
  • a third-party advertising SDK
  • public social-networking features

12. Your Choices

You can decline optional permissions, avoid photo import, avoid Lock Screen or Live Activity features, delete custom items, reset learning data, or uninstall the app.
